SPRING Class Schedule

Each class is 10 weeks running from early April to mid-June.

We offer evening classes Monday-Thursday and 3 class sessions on Saturdays!

Please Note: Due to the rising costs of steel, propane, and other supplies,
the class fee has been raised to $500 per 10-week session.

    Apr 8th - June 17th*

    Intro to Blacksmithing & Steel Fabrication

    This 10 week class covers basic blacksmithing and steel fabrication techniques.

    The first 6-7 weeks will cover blacksmithing techniques using forging tools & equipment, use of plasma cutter, cold working techniques, different patinas, and the history of blacksmithing. The final 3-4 weeks will cover torch work, MIG welding, ARC welding, and the use of angle grinders and die grinders. Blacksmithing projects include, but are not limited to: tapering, scrolling, twisting, s-hook, hammer hook, italian leaf, veined leaf, bottle opener, and letter opener.

    Introduction to Blade Smithing

    In this 10 week class students will hand forge 3 seperate knives during this class.

    Students will be forging a railroad spike knife, herb chopper, and a full tang knife. They will then be using grinders and files to further shape and sharpen the blades.
    Pre-requisite: Students must have taken at least one 10 week intro class at Blue Hell Studio.

    Intermediate Blacksmithing & Steel Fabrication

    This 10 week class builds on the Intro class techniques and processes and adds more complicated smithing and fabrication techniques.

    The intermediate class will build on the techniques learned in the Intro class with these new techniques: Decorative wall hook, pineapple twist, fire poker, bamboo, candle holder, file snake, eye punch, horse head bottle opener, dinner triangle, ladle, steel rose, campfire tripod, steel acorn, rams head, steel bowl, tool making, bbq fork, skewers . . .
    Prerequisite - Intro to Blacksmithing and Steel Fabrication.

    Apr 11th - Jun 13th

    Intermediate Blade Smithing

    Students will hand forge 2-3 seperate knives during this class.

    Students will possibly forge at least 2 of the following: camping knife, chef's knife, skinning knife, or a cleaver. They will then be using grinders and files to further shape and sharpen the blades.
    Pre-requisite: Students must have taken at least one 10 week knife making class at Blue Hell Studio.

    Available for students who have taken at least one 10 week class at BHS.

    For students who have taken at least one class at Blue Hell Studio. This is a great way to get in some extra practice, get ahead on a project, or start something new. Chris will be on hand for technical assistance, but this will not be a class setting. You must bring your own steel. Open Studio hours are on Friday afternoons by appointment only. Price is $40 / hour, which can be bought as blocks of time.
